All fuel stations in Noida to be inspected for oil theft | noida | Hindustan Times
In the backdrop of oil theft at some filling stations in the state, all fuel stations in the district will be inspected for tampering that enables machines to dispense less petrol and diesel than indicated. Five fuel stations have already been checked in Noida in the past three days for under-supply of petrol and diesel.
There are 72 fuel stations in the district, of which 67 belong to public sector oil companies and five are run by Essar.
City magistrate Ramanuj Singh, who is heading the inspection operation in Noida, said all filling stations are under scanner. “We are not conducting inspections on the basis of suspicion or anyone’s complaint or experience. Data of all fuel stations has been acquired by the oil companies running these filling stations.”
He added that the inspections are being conducted on the basis of revenue and sales of filling stations. “We have raided four fuel stations in two days on the basis of high sales. Those stations that do not have much sales will be also be checked. We have categorised fuel stations on the basis of high sales, low sales and average sales,” said Singh.
In Noida, there are three teams for inspection comprising officials from police, weights and measures and food and civil supply departments, apart from engineers of oil companies.
On Thursday, a petrol pump in Sector 21 A was inspected by a team of police and district administration officials. The inspection lasted four hours and experts accompanying the officers found no evidence of tampering.
Sources said oil companies claim oil dispensing machines are tamper-proof and are equipped with latest technology of sensor coding. The inspection is being conducted in the presence of oil company officials who can identify any change in such machines.
On Wednesday, the team members conducted inspections at fuel stations in sectors 63 and 105.
“One oil dispenser was seized at Sector 105. There were some physical changes in the nozzle of the machine. It is under investigation and the report will be out soon,” said Kumar Vineet, additional district magistrate, Gautam Buddh Nagar.
