Evalend vehement after tanker detained | TradeWinds

Greece’s Evalend Shipping is vehemently denying an allegation of fuel smuggling after Libyan authorities detained one of its chemicals tankers this week to investigate its crew.

The 20,000-dwt Levante (built 2008) has been held since 27 August when the Libyan coastguard intercepted the vessel as it was ballasting about 25 miles off the country’s coast, awaiting orders.

Local media cited a Libyan navy spokesman as saying that the tanker was trying to smuggle 6,000 tons of oil.
