Special Task Force claims to bust a gang involved in theft of petrol/diesel from oil tankers of Indian Oil Corporation



The Special Task Force claimed to have busted a gang involved in theft of petrol/diesel from oil tankers of Indian Oil Corporation in Meerut. A total of 16 gang members were nabbed and five filled tankers, six empty tankers, two drums filled with petrol, two drums and three containers filled with solvent, three containers of petrol and equipment used to steal fuel from oil tankers was recovered. A case was registered by the police and further action was being initiated.

Giving details in Lucknow on Tuesday morning, IG (STF) Amitabh Yash said that they got inputs that a gang was actively engaged in stealing fuel from tankers of IOC in western UP. The STF (eest UP unit) was asked to develop the input and bust the gang. The officer said that the STF team learnt that oil tankers coming out of IOC refilling plant at Putha locality of Meerut were stopped by the gang and allowed to go after stealing certain quantity of fuel.

Yash said that after developing the information, the STF team raided the area on Monday night and managed to bust the gang with the arrest of kingpins Yogesh and Anil Chaudhary Putha (Meerut). Later on their information, 14 gang members including drivers of tankers were taken into custody. During interrogation, the gang confessed of opening the oil-filled IOC tankers with the help of master key and later allowing the forard meovement of the tankers after stealing 50 to 60 litres of petrol from each one. They owned up that they used to steal about 30,000 to 3,60,000 litres every month. A case was registered in this regard by the STF.
