Two charged with fuel theft in police crackdown | The West Australian

Kwinana police have caught another two alleged petrol thieves as part of an ongoing operation with local petrol stations to identify and charge repeat offenders.

Senior Sergeant Gary Benzies said it was a huge problem all over the country and millions of dollars worth of fuel was stolen every year.

Two women from Medina were charged with stealing fuel from Bertram and will be appearing in Rockingham Magistrate’s Court in the near future, he said. We will not accept criminals in this area just helping themselves to fuel and driving off. We will investigate these crimes and we will knock on your door.

This latest charges follow the arrest of two other alleged offenders in May who were both charged with several counts of fuel theft.

We are working together with the management and they are using security staff on the forecourt and other electronic methods to deter this criminality, Sgt Benzies said. So far there has been a significant reduction in crime in this area and we are continuing to make it difficult for thieves.
