€30-million fuel from Libya smuggled to petrol stations in Europe
Italy’s Guardia di Finanza financial police have uncovered a €30-million fuel smuggling scheme which involves stealing low-quality diesel from a refinery operated by Libya’s National Oil Corporation and selling it at petrol stations in Sicily, France, and Spain.
The smuggled fuel would then be mixed and sold at 40% cheaper than the market price at service stations and on the black market in Europe, reports Libyan Express.
A court in Catania has already issued arrest warrants to individuals allegedly involved in the smuggling network.
